I feel bad for you guys.

Not being required to mess up my car's pretty face is one of the very few driving pleasures I receive from the great state of Pennsylvania.

I hate it. It makes cars here in NY look uglier.

Required here, but not enforced very strongly. Unless pulled over for something else. Once I got a verbal warning about it when pulled over for speeding in my truck (plate was behind the seat), and when I got pulled over in my Camry last year I quick threw it on the dash, cop never said anything about it.

It doesn't bother me at all. I don't know why people get so worked up about it. If your state says put one on, then put one on. Although auto manufacturers could certainly design the front bumper to nicely incorporate a front plate instead of jamming an adapter bracket blobby thing on later.

It's not like the front end of the car is SOOOOO UGGLLLYYYY because it has a front plate.

at least those that have to can have a smallish plate when compared to the UK :(

Moving from NJ to PA made the face of my Miata that much happier!

The late first-gen Mustang handles it one of the best of any car I know - bracket tabs on the bumper which are pretty much invisible when not in use. Some variants have a notch in the bumper over that, but still.

I prefer front plates. The 18 US states (plus a couple provinces) that don't require them buck the norm in the entire remainder of the civilized world — Europe, Asia, Australia, South America, even Russia — they all have em. Everywhere on earth except these states. It's an important tool for law enforcement and it's wild there are still states that don't have it.

That said. When I moved the Ferrari to PA I didn't exactly lobby for them to change the law.

There are several Canadian provinces that don't require them.

I picked up a new toy last summer. I already had an aftermarket tow hook on the car, and the same guy who made them came out with a license plate holder. So I took the ugly holder off the car (still have two small screw holes in the bumper, but it's a black car so they don't show that much.) Now while on the street I have a plate, and at the track I swap it out and have my tow hook.

Most of the late 60's and 70's cars that I know have a flat spot for the license plate integrated right into the front bumper. Example: '69 Buick Skylark/Special front bumper

'59 Buick Invicta:

With that spot being visible on most, the fact that it's concealed on the Fat Mustang makes me like it more.

Weird, totally missed it. My bad.

Still, front plates can go to hell.

I know, it sucks. I'm moving back to PA in a couple of months, but I'm still going to be stuck with the bracket on the front, unless I want to pay for some bodywork to fill the holes.

The last owner of my car attached the front plate at a weird angle with mismatched bolts/screws. It is driving me nuts!!!!
